Meet Dr. John Ekweani

Dr. John Chukwuzitelu Ekweani is a highly qualified and experienced Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist and fertility/ IVF expert with over 15 years of experience in the field. He obtained his MBBS from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and holds several fellowships, including the Fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons (Obstetrics and Gynecology) and the Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. He is also an associate member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (MRCOG).

Dr. Ekweani’s extensive experience spans various roles, including internship at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Medical Officer positions in different hospitals, and Residency Training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the same institution. He has served as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital and other leading hospitals in Nigeria including the Bridge Clinic, Federal MedicalCenterAbuja, Life Annax Clinic, Clover Hospital and also runs his private hospital as the medical director and gynecolgist with branches at Dantata Estate, Kubwa and renown Baze University Hospital Abuja. He also has significant experience in lecturing and mentoring medical students and resident doctors in training having successfully supervised 8 part research dissertations. His expertise extends to assisted reproductive technology, as evidenced by his Postgraduate Diploma in Assisted Reproductive Technology (PGD ART) from the University of Schleswig Holstein – Kiel, Germany. He also obtained a Masters in Business Administration (Finance and Investments subspecialisation) from the famous Ahmadu Bello University Zaria.

Dr. Ekweani is a prolific researcher, with several publications in peer-reviewed journals, including the Port Harcourt Medical Journal and the Journal of the West African College of Surgeons, Tropical Journal of Medicine, West African Journal of Medicine and African Medical Journal where he is listed as an editor. He has presented his research findings at numerous national and international conferences. His research interests center around contraceptive preferences, pain relief in labor, IVF and infertility management and various aspects of obstetrics and gynecology. He is actively involved in medical education, having served as an Academic Postgraduate Coordinator and participated in numerous training initiatives.

Beyond his medical expertise, Dr. Ekweani demonstrates a commitment to community health, evidenced by his past leadership roles in various organizations, including Health Prefect, School President, and Zonal Coordinator roles. Recently he has served as the secretary of the local organizing committee of the AFRH conference in Abuja 2024. He is a member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Medical and Dental Consultants of Nigeria (MDCAN), and the Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Nigeria (SOGON).
